The past two weeks have been the busiest of the semester. Submission evaluations have fallen on the two week midterm period as well as hiring season for the orientation office. For work, all of my time has been dedicated to conducting interviews, evaluations, and trainings. For school, I have been diligently preparing for midterms and working on projects. For Toyon, I have been evaluating submissions and promoting our social media.
The submission evaluation process has been exciting. So far, I’ve mostly evaluated poetry with a sprinkling of fiction and critical analysis. A good majority of the pieces I’ve received have strong messages – a few of which are related to social and environmental justice. At the same time we are conducting this blind review process, my Identity and Representation in Literature course is discussing Foucault’s views on authorship. For those who are unfamiliar with his stance, Foucault believes the author has little relevance to their work. It is interesting to be reviewing work with no authorial information while studying this view point. I feel it has enhanced the reader experience.
In the past two days, I have been able to pull in over 250 followers to our Instagram page. I am hoping to have pulled in at least one thousand more before Volume 63 goes to print. I am also in the process of honing in and polishing our brand aesthetic. Soon, I will be sharing previously printed work from Edition 62.
